As a State employee many of our benefits and retirement benefits are changing. We have had so many changes in the past 3 months it is hard to keep us with everything. I knew when the new Gov. I’m sure some people will have to refer to payday loans to make the initial payment. I’m sure they are requiring the union due to be cut because they don’t want us to have a union at all. Rumor has it that Scott will cut state employee pensions by next year. I know that Florida’s budget was cut over the past year, but there are many more ways to make up this money instead of hurting some of the most important members of this state. It really makes me wonder why my family is willing to stay in Florida for our lines of work. My mother could move 50 miles North and work in Georgia and make $20k more then she is making now.

I have been working at my same department for 8 years and have always received my yearly bonus for scoring superior on my evaluation but now that raise will be taken away also. Why would I want to work hard and service my community if there is no reward for a job well done. I personally think there have to be better ways for the State of Florida to earn more money to make up for the state debt. Coming from a police officer, lets charge inmates a fee while they are in jail or prison. Yes I understand that they don’t have a job while in jail but put a lien on their state benefits, house, or whatever else they own. Why should they be able to commit a crime then stay in jail for years with a place to sleep, eat and watch cable TV. They need to be charged room and board! We can also increase the fines for speeding tickets, parking tickets, etc. instead of increasing the cost for people to renew their car registration and drivers license. Many of the criminals that drive and are receiving tickets don’t pay these increase prices for a drivers license because they simply don’t have one.

It seems that our state government is doing a lot to change they way our state works to save money but there are many different ways to do this without taking pay from the employees. This really makes you understand why many people don’t want to become police officers and teachers in the State of Florida anymore.
